Tutor.com is all about… tutoring! Of course you want to get in as many hours as you can. Here is some information to help to get you started.

The Tutor.com schedule opens on different days depending on the tutor’s status:

Status Level Advance Scheduling Day
New Tutor Friday
Intermediate Tutor Thursday
Advanced Tutor Wednesday
Master Tutor Wednesday

At noon Eastern Time on Saturdays, the schedule is open for all tutors to schedule as many hours as they are allowed and as are available. Tutors can schedule hours for the remainder of the current week and one additional week. During the week, tutors should check the schedule. You can schedule additional hours (if they are available) up to the current cap during the week.

We would also like to let you know that New Tutors can access the on-demand schedule first in the week, along with the Advanced and Master Tutors, on the first Wednesday of each month. So be sure to get that on your calendar to take advantage of this opportunity.

To schedule hours, simply log in to the classroom or visit https://www.tutor.com/providers/schedulinginfo. You will then be able to see what hours are available.

If you do not see available hours, you can feel free to float unscheduled by logging in to the classroom and setting yourself as available. As we mentioned earlier, our peak hours are Sunday – Thursday 3pm-1am ET. Even if you are unable to schedule hours, you can typically log in to float during these hours to pick up sessions.

Tutor.com may send an alert to some tutors in a specific subject if there is an immediate need for additional staffing. These alerts go out either via Email or SMS (text message). You will be automatically opted in for Email alerts. If you wish to opt in for SMS alerts as well open the Classroom and go to the Settings & Tools menu, or click here to sign in and edit your Alert preferences. These alerts should be considered voluntary requests – log on to assist only if you are able to do so. Tutors always have the option to opt out of alert messages through the Settings and Tools menu.

Seasonality
  • Our peak usage is between September and mid-June. During these months, there are many hours available for both scheduled and floating sessions.
  • Summer usage is lower. If you start tutoring during the summer, try experimenting with both scheduling and floating to see what fits best with your schedule at the moment and with changes you may anticipate in the coming months. Our tutors always say their favorite part of working with Tutor.com is how flexible it is! See what you like the best!

Weekly Availability
  • Our peak hours are Sunday – Thursday 3pm-1am ET. Even if you were unable to schedule hours, you can typically log in to float during these hours to pick up sessions.
  • There is not much demand for daytime or overnight sessions, so the schedule is managed very tightly for these times. You always have the option to log in to float; however, your best chance of obtaining unscheduled sessions is during the peak times mentioned above.

Tutoring & the Academic Year
  • Late August – September: There is a slow ramping up of sessions that begins in late August each year as students return to school and their homework load increases.
  • October – Mid-November: This is the time of year when usage is highest, as many students are in the thick of their studies. During this time we have 6000-7000 sessions a night, and we may even break some records this year.
  • Mid-November – Late December: Usage tends to fluctuate during this period between holidays.
  • Late-December – Early January: During this time, usage is low. It is during this time that we highly encourage tutors to float to pick up hours. There are less scheduled session times available due to the decreased demand with Winter Breaks.
  • Early January – February: There is a slow but steady increase through these months when a second ramping up of sessions happens as the school work picks up again and we are back in full swing be early March.
  • Mid-March – April: Demand again fluctuates during this period due to Spring Breaks. This is another time period in which we recommend floating.
  • April – May: One final surge in usage due to finals and heavy coursework during this time.
  • June – Mid-August: Sessions quickly taper to the low point of the season due to the Summer Breaks across the country. For this time, we do utilize a rotating schedule to do our best to give tutors fair access to the schedule. It is not required that you tutor over the summer, as there are closer to 1,500 sessions a night, but you certainly are welcome to float to pick up sessions as you like.
